The PANYNJ is currently undertaking an initiative to convert all Hudson River Crossing facilities to cashless tolling. At the George Washington Bridge (GWB), the removal of the Upper-Level Toll Plaza and conversion to a tolling alternative presents several complexities related to the safe and efficient operation of the main line bridge lanes, on/off ramps and the local roadway network in Fort Lee. With the planned conversion of the Toll Plaza areas to mainline roadways, PANYNJ Traffic Engineering wanted to evaluate how to best modify the multiple lanes within the plaza after cashless tolling is implemented. Therefore, the PA Traffic Team is evaluating various proposed concepts. KLD Engineering will be providing modeling and analysis services which includes a review of key metrics such as travel times and queue lengths.
